Thriller: Passionate affair and dark secrets lead to deathĬontemporary fiction: Someone not looking for love is given the chance to find love. Don't care who the authors are, but a bit more variety would be nice. This month is very thematically similar for all books, although the psychological thriller may be more varied. I get 2 free books this month and there's nothing I'd chose to read even if you paid me. What I'm absolutely not interested in is "feel good" novels for the masses and holiday romance stories - which is exactly what the Kindle First selection appears to be littered with. Regardless of the gender of the author, as a paid Amazon Prime subscriber, I'd really like to see a more diverse selection of stories from different genres. I've read amazing stories by authors of both genders - women definitely do craft the best tales and it's fantastic that female authors have a platform for promotion after years of fighting in a male dominated market. I'm not averse to trying something new but I'm really disappointed that the Kindle First selection appears to be specifically tailored to women and the female psyche. My own kindle library is full of predominantly Sci fi, horror and psychological thriller type books. I had my First Reads email today and said to myself "wtf is going on" - have Amazon accidentally profiled me as a woman? I decided to Google "Kindle First Female Authors" and came across this reddit.
